Foam Lead Time & MOQ: What to Expect from Indonesian Manufacturers

2026-06-25·7 min read

Indonesia's polyurethane foam manufacturers offer competitive pricing and high customization flexibility. For B2B buyers placing their first cross-border order, the most frequent planning failures involve lead time and MOQ: either assuming production is faster than it is, or not knowing that flexible ordering is possible without arbitrary minimums.

This guide covers realistic production timelines for each foam product type, how MOQ is structured in the Indonesian B2B market, and how to plan an order from RFQ to delivery without surprises.

Why Lead Time Surprises Happen

Most procurement delays trace back to three causes.

Scope mismatch. Buyers often request custom molded foam and expect lead times similar to standard sheet stock. The two processes are fundamentally different: sheet foam is a continuous production run, while custom molded foam requires tooling, pour-in-mold casting, curing, inspection, and trimming. A 2-day lead time for a custom seat insert is not realistic.

Specification delays. Lead time starts when the specification is confirmed — not when the inquiry is sent. If an RFQ is missing density grade, dimensions, ILD hardness, or certification requirements, the clock pauses with every clarification exchange. A well-prepared brief converts directly to a faster turnaround.

Seasonal production load. Indonesian foam manufacturers serving furniture OEMs and automotive Tier-1 suppliers face peak demand in Q3 and Q4. Production queues compress available slots during these windows. Buyers planning Q4 launches should confirm lead times early in the quarter.

Lead Time by Product Type

Sheet Foam (Standard Inventory)

Typical lead time: 1–3 business days

Standard polyurethane sheet foam in common density grades (D25, D28, D30, D35, D40, D50) is produced continuously and held in finished goods inventory. Orders for stocked grades in standard block or slab dimensions are a picking, packing, and logistics operation — not a production scheduling question.

For domestic buyers in Java, same-day dispatch is achievable on confirmed orders placed before noon. For export orders, the 1–3 day window covers order confirmation, packing, and handoff to freight forwarder.

Practical exception: non-standard density grades (D15, D45, D55, D70+) may have longer lead times if not currently in stock. Confirm availability on time-sensitive orders.

Molded Foam (Existing Tooling)

Typical lead time: 7–14 business days

Molded foam products — seat cushions, backrests, headrest inserts, automotive shapes — are produced against a specific mold. When the mold is already on the production floor, the timeline covers scheduling, casting, curing, inspection, trimming, and packaging.

The 7–14 day window breaks down as:

  • Production queue / scheduling: 1–3 days
  • Pour-in-mold casting and curing: 24–48 hours per batch
  • Demolding, inspection, and trimming: 1 day
  • Packing and handoff to logistics: 1–2 days

Repeat orders from established customers using existing molds regularly execute within 7–10 business days.

Custom Molded Foam (New Tooling Required)

Typical lead time: 21–28 business days

When an order requires a new mold — unique cushion geometry, OEM-specific seat insert, or custom dimensional requirements — tooling fabrication precedes any production activity.

Typical new mold timeline:

  • Technical review and mold design approval: 2–4 days
  • Mold fabrication: 7–10 days
  • First sample casting and curing: 2–3 days
  • Buyer review and approval of sample: 3–7 days (buyer-side timeline)
  • Bulk production: 5–7 days after sample approval

Total from confirmed order to bulk production shipment: 21–28 business days, assuming no sample revisions.

If the sample requires revision — density adjustment, dimensional change, hardness modification — each revision cycle adds 7–10 days. Submit complete specifications upfront, including reference samples or competitor products if available.

Floral Foam

Typical lead time: 2–5 business days

Standard green floral foam blocks (23×11×8 cm and 23×11×11 cm) are a continuous production item. For domestic buyers in Indonesia, orders typically ship within 2–3 business days. Export orders follow the standard 1–3 day dispatch window plus transit.

MOQ: Structure and Flexibility

Industry Standard vs. Tjikko's Approach

MOQ is not standardized across the Indonesian foam industry:

| Manufacturer type | Typical MOQ | |---|---| | Large OEM suppliers | 500–2,000 kg per order | | Mid-size B2B manufacturers | 100–500 kg | | Specialty / direct-to-buyer | No fixed minimum |

Tjikko operates without a fixed minimum order quantity:

  • Sheet foam: No fixed minimum. Pricing adjusts at volume tiers.
  • Molded foam (existing tooling): Minimum 20–50 units depending on complexity.
  • Custom mold (new tooling): Negotiated per project.
  • Floral foam: No fixed minimum. Case-pack quantities (24 or 48 blocks per carton) are the practical unit.

Volume Pricing Tiers

| Order volume | Pricing | |---|---| | < 100 kg | List price | | 100–499 kg | 5–8% below list | | 500–999 kg | 10–15% below list | | 1,000–4,999 kg | 15–25% below list | | 5,000 kg+ | Negotiated contract rate |

Factors That Extend Lead Time

Incomplete specifications. Density, dimensions, or certification requirements missing from the initial brief reset the clock at every clarification round.

Certification requirements. Orders requiring FMVSS 302 or SNI certification on a new foam formulation require laboratory testing — typically 2–3 weeks from sample submission. Confirm whether existing certification covers your density grade before production begins. See Automotive Foam Spec Guide for FMVSS 302 detail.

First-order export documentation. New export buyers require certificate of origin issuance, MSDS preparation, and freight forwarder coordination. Budget 2–3 extra days for first international orders.

Peak season. July–December production queues are typically 30–40% longer. Plan Q4 launches accordingly.

Pre-Order Checklist

Submit this information with your initial inquiry to eliminate back-and-forth and start the clock immediately:

  • [ ] Product type: sheet foam, molded foam (existing tooling), custom mold, or floral foam
  • [ ] Density grade (e.g., D30, D35, D40 — exact grade or acceptable range)
  • [ ] ILD hardness (R-value, or description: soft / medium / firm)
  • [ ] Dimensions (length × width × height in mm)
  • [ ] Quantity (units or kg)
  • [ ] Color (standard: white/cream — other colors add lead time)
  • [ ] Certifications required (FMVSS 302, SNI, other)
  • [ ] Required delivery date
  • [ ] Destination (domestic or export; if export, destination country)
  • [ ] Payment terms preference
