Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know.

Answers to the most common questions about foam specifications, ordering, certifications, and export from PT Tjikko Sentral Industrial.

Density & Product Specs

What is polyurethane foam density and how do I choose the right grade?

Polyurethane foam density, measured in kg/m³ (D-values from D10 to D90), determines firmness, durability, and compressive strength. Higher density means firmer, more durable foam. Residential sofa cushions typically use D28–D40. Automotive seating requires D35–D55 with precise ILD hardness specifications. Mattress comfort layers use D25–D35; support layers use D35–D50. Tjikko manufactures custom foam across the full D10–D90 range — contact our sales team with your application for a density recommendation.

What is the difference between molded foam, slab foam, and floral foam?

Molded foam is produced by injecting chemicals into a custom mold cavity — it takes the exact shape of the mold. Ideal for automotive seats, chair cushions, and shaped components. Slab foam is produced as large blocks (100×120×20 cm) and cut to flat sheet dimensions — ideal for mattresses, upholstery filler, and soundproofing panels. Floral foam (dry foam) is a specialized lightweight rigid foam for dried and permanent flower arrangements — not a flexible PU foam. Each product has a different density range and set of applications.

How do I calculate the right foam density for my application?

Foam density selection depends on application type, usage frequency, and comfort requirements. General guidelines: D10–D25 for lightweight packaging or low-wear cushioning; D25–D35 for mattress comfort layers and soft furniture; D35–D50 for sofa cushions, office chairs, and automotive seats; D50–D90 for heavy-duty industrial and high-wear commercial applications. Contact Tjikko with your application details for a precise density and ILD hardness recommendation.

What is ILD hardness and how does it relate to density?

ILD (Indentation Load Deflection) measures how much force is required to compress foam by 25% — it defines "feel" independent of density. Tjikko's molded foam is available in ILD hardness grades from R40 to R90. Density determines durability and structure; ILD determines comfort feel. For example, two foams with the same density (D40) can have different ILD ratings depending on the chemical formulation. Automotive OEM specs typically define both density and ILD explicitly.

Ordering & Production

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom foam?

Tjikko has no fixed minimum order quantity for any of its foam products. Sample orders are accepted for product evaluation and engineering approval. MOQ varies by product complexity and foam type — contact our sales team with your specification for a tailored quotation.

How long is the lead time for custom foam production?

Standard production lead time is 7–14 working days from mold confirmation (for molded foam) or order placement (for slab and floral foam). Complex mold configurations or specialty density formulations may require additional time. Fast-track production may be available depending on current capacity — contact us with your required delivery date.

Can you custom-cut or custom-shape foam to my exact specifications?

Yes. Tjikko produces molded foam in any shape from client-provided mold drawings, CAD files, or physical samples. Slab foam is cut to custom dimensions from standard 100×120×20 cm blocks. Floral foam is cut to any brick size on request. All custom shapes are available with no fixed minimum order quantity.

Do you offer foam samples before committing to a full production order?

Yes. Sample orders are available with no fixed minimum quantity. Clients can submit a mold drawing, CAD file, or physical sample for evaluation. Tjikko produces a sample set for engineering approval before confirming full production. Sample lead time is typically 7–14 working days from confirmation.

How much does custom polyurethane foam cost?

Pricing depends on foam type, density grade, shape complexity, and order volume. Tjikko provides factory-direct pricing — no distributor markup. Contact our sales team with your foam specifications, dimensions, density requirements, and estimated monthly volume for a tailored quotation.

Certification & Quality

Can you produce foam that meets automotive safety and flammability standards?

Yes. Tjikko's molded foam line is capable of meeting FMVSS 302 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard — flammability for interior automotive materials). The in-house chemical testing laboratory tests each batch to verify compliance. For specific OEM automotive supply requirements, provide your technical specification and we will confirm formulation feasibility.

What certifications does Tjikko foam carry?

Tjikko's in-house chemical testing laboratory provides FMVSS 302 certification for molded foam used in automotive applications. Standard density and ILD testing per batch is included with all production orders. Compression set testing is performed per ISO 1856 standards. Other certifications are available on request — contact our sales team to discuss your compliance requirements.

How does Tjikko ensure quality control in foam manufacturing?

Tjikko operates an in-house chemical testing laboratory. Density and ILD hardness are tested per batch. Compression set testing follows ISO 1856 standards. Dimensional verification is performed on all cut and molded foam pieces before dispatch. All production follows a documented QC process from formulation through delivery.

What is the lifespan and durability of polyurethane foam?

The lifespan of polyurethane foam depends on density grade and application intensity. High-density foam (D50+) used in commercial seating typically lasts 10–15 years under normal use. Standard residential cushion foam (D32–D40) lasts 5–10 years. Foam below D25 is not recommended for high-wear seating applications. Tjikko recommends the appropriate density for your specific application to ensure long-term performance.

Export & Documentation

Do you export polyurethane foam to Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia?

Yes. Tjikko exports custom polyurethane foam and floral foam internationally. Export documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, and Certificate of Origin — is provided for every export order. Shipping terms (FOB, CIF) are negotiable. Contact our sales team with your destination country, foam specifications, and volume requirements.

What is OEM documentation and does Tjikko provide it?

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) documentation is the commercial paperwork required for B2B foam supply — typically a commercial invoice, packing list, Certificate of Origin, and density test report per batch. Tjikko provides full OEM documentation for all production orders. FMVSS 302 certification documentation is available on request for automotive applications.

Does Tjikko provide a quality guarantee on custom foam orders?

Tjikko guarantees that all foam produced meets the density and ILD specification confirmed at order placement, verified by in-house lab testing per batch. Quality issues attributable to production defects are addressed directly with the client. Contact our sales team to discuss quality guarantees for your specific order.
