Two seats at the same density can still feel different — ILD hardness is set separately through formulation. One caveat worth stating plainly: the table is a recommended starting point, not a single official specification. Serious OEM programs always finalize the grade through test samples — and we produce samples with no minimum order for engineering approval.

Why Molded Foam — Not Cut Slab — for Seats

A motorcycle seat is a contoured 3D shape carrying concentrated compression loads. Three technical reasons molded foam wins this application:

The molded skin. Foam that expands inside a mold forms a denser outer skin. That skin resists abrasion from the seat cover and slows surface deformation — cut slab foam exposes open cells across its entire surface.

Shape precision without seams. A seat contour cut-and-glued from slab layers has adhesive joints that become failure points under thousands of compression cycles. Molded foam leaves the mold already in its final shape.

Stock vs Custom Foam: The Real Economics

The most common complaint in the market — seats flattening within months — almost always traces to one decision: low-density stock foam chosen on price.

The economics are simple but frequently inverted. The cost difference between low-density foam and correctly graded molded foam is a small fraction of the seat's selling price — but a flattened seat generates warranty claims, bad reviews, and lost repeat orders worth many times that difference.

The technical parameter behind "doesn't flatten" is compression set — the foam's permanent deformation after sustained load, tested per the ISO 1856 method (70% compression, 22 hours).
